Hello friends…I frequently visit the blog and thought of dropping into this discussion. I am sorry, I don’t mean to offend anyone, but I guess your knowledge of website indexing is not only less but it is wrong also! How on earth can you say that Flash is good for a website and helps to index your website better????? This fact is as true as the fact that eating oily foods and fried stuff will keep you lean and fit!! Let me enlighten you folks that most search engines are not able to index flash sites. For your information, search engines love text and their crawlers are always looking for text. It’s the text on your web page that is the first thing to be indexed when you index your website in search engines. If a website owner puts a Flash movie on the homepage of a website the he is losing out on the crucial text on the page that is necessary to convince the search engines that your page is about a particular topic. Hence the search engine has nothing to index as there is no text and that is why home page of various websites is difficult to index. Flash websites need to work extra hard to get into the listings and get rankings through link building or link popularity to carry the page on their own.
In the past various organizations that wanted to give a rich user experience through their website often had to compromise on their rankings. Businesses like design studious, photography websites, production houses and any other business involve in creative communication often opted for flash websites which gave a wonderful experience through their rich graphics but often lost out on rankings.
But now the cloud has a silver lining as Google can index flash websites. But let me remind you FLASH DOESN”T MAKE YOUR WEBISTE EASILY INDEXABLE!
Google has always been the first search engine to index various formats like Pdf, .doc and Jpegs and this time gain Google is the first such search engine to index flash websites. Google even allows you to search for content in Flash. All you need to do is that when you type the keyword in Google search bar you need to type .swf file extension with it and Google will get you the search results from all the Flash documents that contain the word. Google also allows you to extract content out of a Flash document so you can use it. When you extract the text, some lines might appear multiple times and some might appear invisible. That is why make sure that you highlight all the text using ctrl+A option while going through the text document of a flash website.
So this is an overview of using flash in your website and how it hampers your search engine indexing. I hope everyone who ever thought that Flash is good for indexing have come back to their senses. Please kindly get your facts right before advising others!!
