Search Engine Optimization deals with constantly updating and improving websites for gauging the full potential of a very important traffic source called search engines. It is a very important, yet time-consuming task but there are few better ways than this to gain visibility for your business as well as to achieve your sales targets. Making a site Google-friendly needs to be a full time effort for best results and your actions towards achieving the same need to be measured and monitored well. The first step towards gaining better rankings for your websites includes observing and learning from the success stories of well-known, authority sites as well as reading up on the ways you can get to the top of Google’s charts. Here are a few tips to help you achieve great organic listings.

First and foremost, you need to realize that it would really help if you are already an expert of the subject that you decide your site is going to be based upon. It is always useful to hire SEO consultants or website builders to help you build your website, if you think you lack sufficient knowledge in that aspect. You can consider rebuilding an existing website, but starting afresh can prove to be better and easier for you in the long run. Before setting up your marketing plan, think of a great site plan and scope out your competition to know your current standings in your industry. Do some serious keyword research and decide on the keywords and related phrases that you want to use in your pages. Select your main keyword and include it in your domain name. Also, make sure that you include your keywords wherever possible: meta tags, page titles, file names etc. Now, calculate your total number of keywords and then build around the same number of pages to have the best possible optimization for each phrase on your website.

Every page of your site should have a sure shot focus and this focus should be maintained throughout your website. Ensure that you build all the web pages and not copy every page to make them all look the same. This form of spamming is not acceptable by search engines and can even get your website banned. Use different keyword phrases for individual pages and write details about the phrases. Some information in the pages may get overlapped but try to keep each page as different as possible. Building your own internal linking section apart from having a tab for every page, is a good idea as you can have a phrase take your users to the page they’re actually interested in viewing.

List you sitemap with the “Big 3” namely, Google, Yahoo! And MSN, submit your website to popular web directories and install good webmaster tools to your site. Start a link building campaign, which is supposed to be one of the most effective ingredients of an effective SEO methodology. It can be expensive and time-consuming, but you can seldom go wrong with it. Lastly, focus on the “quality” and not the quantity of your website content and you will see your way to the top soon. The above list is not exhaustive and you can think of adding your own creative ways to win Google’s heart!
